In-flight maps on Delta Sync seatback

Over 90% percent of Delta's passengers engage with the flight map tracking feature offered on all 160,000+ aircraft seatback screens each day.

The newly released Delta Sync seatback experience brings further personalization and tailored travel to SkyMiles members including content recommendations, the ability to continue watching from flight to flight, and more.

Before the redesign

When Delta Sync seatback first launched, the maps experience had yet to be tailored to the new design language, and thus, the map pins had little to no brand association.

My role

I led the redesign of our map pins, collaborating with Delta’s internal teams and external in-flight maps provider. After initial designs, I presented a blue and red pin variant to Delta marketing for brand compliance. They preferred the blue pin but requested a smaller, style guide-compliant Delta logo. I refined the logo and secured final marketing approval.

I detailed the pin’s design and functionality to our external provider, highlighting a unique zoom feature: at a wide view, the pins appear as dots, but upon zooming, they reveal Delta’s main hubs and further zooming splits these into additional markets.

The final design, featuring a radial gradient, white Delta logo, and a sleek needle, aligns with Delta’s premium brand image and the new seatback design.
